Initial Balance: The initial phase of the delivery, including the leg lift and gathering at the top, is controlled and demonstrates good balance before moving down the mound.
Front Leg Instability: The most critical area for improvement is the failure to brace the lead leg. Landing on a soft, bent knee dissipates a significant amount of ground force and disrupts the entire kinetic chain, limiting velocity and adding stress to the arm.
Lack of Hip-Shoulder Separation: The hips and torso rotate as a single unit (‘opening up early’). This prevents the creation of torque through the core and is a primary inhibitor of velocity potential. This is often linked to the open stride and aggressive glove-side pull.
Postural Control: Significant lateral trunk tilt and forward collapse lead to an unstable platform for the arm. Maintaining a more upright and stable posture through release will improve command, efficiency, and reduce stress.
Arm Timing: The throwing arm is late in its path relative to the body’s rotation. Improving sequencing from the ground up will allow the arm to get into the proper position at foot strike, creating a more efficient and safer arm action.
