Stable Balance and Posture: The pitcher maintains excellent balance from the leg lift through landing, with his head remaining centered and behind his lead foot. This provides a solid foundation for the throwing motion.
Insufficient Hip-Shoulder Separation: The primary mechanical inefficiency is the simultaneous rotation of the hips and shoulders. By learning to delay shoulder rotation while the hips begin to open, the pitcher can create significantly more torque and increase velocity.
Soft Lead Leg at Release: The front knee is bent at ball release, which creates an ‘energy leak.’ A firm, braced lead leg is crucial for transferring ground force up through the kinetic chain and into the ball. Stabilizing the front leg will improve velocity and consistency.
